Every3rd Thursday Vinylrichie & The Ambassador will take you back, sharing our love and record collections dedicated to this movement.

Boulevard Nights - "The Soundtrack Of The Streets"

Lets take a trip back in time and space to California in the late seventies . . . When cruising hit an all time high with Mexican American youths they would customize, chrome out Low-riders and cruise through the main drag in cities like San Jose - Story & King to Whittier Blvd in Los Angeles. This was a time when Pride meant something! When ironing your outfit was as important as your car and music collection. This was the time when the Boulevard was the place to be every Saturday and Sunday night. A time when the pay phone on the Boulevard was your social network! When word of mouth was your invitation to the dance at the local hall. Your local DJ played the finest in soul music. He'd take your requests and dedications, songs with messages in their titles or their lyrics. You might here some smooth soul like The Chi-Lites, the Whisperes, Main Ingredient or The Stairsteps or latin jazz by Gato Barbieri or Cal Tjader or the diverse sounds from the Chicano scene like The Midniters, Santana, Tierra, Malo or El Chicano. The gates were wide open when cruising in your ride. The music was the soundtrack to your days . . . and nights.

To be clear, we love "oldies", but this night is dedicated to wider definition of "Low-rider Oldies". We would like to show you some of the diverse sounds that might have been overlooked. This night is dedicated to LPs and 45s all on original wax. Please come and share your memories of the Boulevard with like-minded people who enjoy and love this scene.

All Car Clubs and Cruisers welcome.

My good homie Felipe R.Vazquez who is part of The Art Association of the East Bay is putting this show together to promote and support East Bay youth and the arts... A bunch of the homies will have some firme art in the show, you won't want to miss it!!!

For more details read below...

The Art Association of the East Bay (AAEB), Inc. is pleased to announce the Spring 2012 Art Show, Dedicated to You. The Art Association of the East Bay, a public benefit non-profit has been promoting and supporting art within the east bay for the past eight years. We have done this by giving scholarships to high school students pursuing a future in art, working with local high schools to display their art publicly, and making art accessible to youth coming specifically from underrepresented communities, through community/school murals and a youth photography program.

The opening night is Saturday, March 10, 2012, 6pm at the Sun Gallery in Hayward. The exhibit will be running from March10th- April 7th. This is a FREE EVENT, including live music and drinks for the 21+. The funds from this show will be used to further the Art Association of the East Bay’s mission to advance creative abilities in all aspects of the “arts”- to continue to support and develop art activities and upcoming artists within our communities, and to eventually establish a permanent regional art center.
